Pingtung hosts Hakka arts competitions and cultural showcases

Pingtung County has hosted two significant events dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Hakka culture. The southern regional preliminary for the 115th National Primary and Secondary School Hakka Arts Competition took place at Meihe University. The event featured 1,125 teachers and students from 61 schools across Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung, competing in categories such as Hakka oral arts, singing, and drama.

Additionally, the Pingtung County Government organized the Hakka Arts Training Program showcase at the Pingtung Hakka Cultural Center. Six local music groups performed a variety of traditional styles, including Sixdui mountain songs, Hakka folk songs, and Ba-yin. Performances ranged from traditional northern管 (Beiguan) music to modern fusions involving African drums, highlighting intergenerational participation and the integration of traditional sounds with contemporary elements.
