Pingtung County cultural and tourism promotion

Overview

Pingtung County is implementing various initiatives to promote local culture, indigenous traditions, and tourism through performing arts and outdoor activities.

The county government launched the ‘Pt Original’ cultural brand, a series of musical productions running from October to January. These works include immersive folk performances at Donggang Donglong Temple, a folk-rock musical in Hengchun, and an indigenous-themed production at the Pingtung Arts Center. The program aims to transform local culture into professional stage works by involving both professional artists and local residents.

Simultaneously, the region is promoting tourism through the ‘2026 Pingtung Cycling Tourism Season’ and outdoor events. A new 11.6-kilometer electric-assist bicycle route has been established to connect sites such as the Taiwan Indigenous Peoples Cultural Park and the Longwen Stone Museum. Additionally, the ‘Pingtung Wind Festival’ includes an orienteering race in Mudan Township, utilizing the area around the Shimen Ancient Battlefield to encourage geographical exploration and physical activity.

Efforts to preserve Hakka culture have also expanded through recent arts competitions and showcases. The southern regional preliminary for the 115th National Primary and Secondary School Hakka Arts Competition was held at Meihe University, involving 1,125 participants from 61 schools across Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung. These competitions covered categories such as Hakka oral arts, singing, and drama.

Furthermore, the Pingtung Hakka Cultural Center hosted a showcase for the Hakka Arts Training Program. Six local music groups performed traditional styles, including Sixdui mountain songs and Ba-yin, alongside modern fusions that integrated traditional sounds with contemporary elements like African drums.
