Pink Floyd announces Animals 50th anniversary reissue

Pink Floyd is set to release Animals 50 on January 22, 2027, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of their 1977 dystopian concept album. The reissue, released via Sony Music, will be available in various formats including a deluxe box set, vinyl, CD, Blu-ray, and digital editions.

The deluxe box set features five CDs and three LPs. It includes the original 1977 album, the 2018 remix by James Guthrie, and a rarities disc containing previously unreleased material, such as the Roger Waters track “Young Nicholas Jon” and early versions of “Sheep” and “Dogs.” Additionally, the set includes a two-disc recording of the band’s May 9, 1977, performance at the Oakland Coliseum Arena, captured by bootlegger Reinhard Hohlwein.

A 64-page hardcover book accompanies the deluxe edition, featuring liner notes by author Jonathan Lethem, an interview with Hohlwein, and excerpts from Hipgnosis designer Aubrey “Po” Powell’s memoir regarding the album’s iconic cover art. The collection also contains unpublished images from the recording sessions and the subsequent tour.
