Piraeus marks European Music Day with concerts and David Byrne show
On Sunday 21 June, Piraeus marked European Music Day with an open‑air concert in the square of the Municipal Theatre‑Mikis Theodorakis. The event was organized by the municipality’s Directorate of External Relations, European Programs and Tourism together with the Standard Music Center of Piraeus. Performances included local choirs, the municipal wind orchestra, the Piraeus Music School, the Erasmus Band and other ensembles, attracting residents and visitors.
That same evening, American musician David Byrne presented a multimedia show at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in collaboration with the Release Athens Festival. The program blended Talking Heads songs with dance, video walls and political statements, such as a “MAKE AMERICA GAY AGAIN” banner, and featured commentary on animal rights, Buddhism and U.S. politics, highlighting collective creativity.
