Piraeus mayor backs €250 million Karaiskakis stadium upgrade

Mayor Giannis Moralis said the new Georgios Karaiskakis stadium in Piraeus will start construction in May, with a two‑year timetable and a private investment of €250 million. The project requires a legislative amendment to raise the stadium’s height and extend the land lease, which Moralis has urged the government to approve.

Moralis highlighted that the stadium will create jobs, improve the city’s infrastructure, and allow the venue to host the national football team and major events such as a Europa League final. He also spoke of related developments, including new road lanes, underground utility lines, and upgrades to the nearby port area, aiming to ease traffic pressure during the summer tourism season.
