Piraeus port arrest involves seizure of over two kilograms of cannabis

A 26-year-old man was arrested at the Port of Piraeus after being found in possession of more than two kilograms of cannabis. The detection occurred during intensified security checks on passengers and vehicles at the port, facilitated by a narcotics detection dog.

During the initial inspection on a passenger ferry, authorities discovered approximately 1,080 grams of raw cannabis and 0.5 grams of processed cannabis in the individual's carry-on luggage. Although the suspect attempted to flee, he was immediately detained by Coast Guard officers.

A subsequent search of the suspect's residence in Athens, conducted in the presence of a judicial official, led to the seizure of an additional 881.4 grams of raw cannabis and 97.5 grams of processed cannabis. Officers also recovered two precision scales containing cannabis residue, a mobile phone, and a total of 4,900 euros in cash (4,600 euros from the residence and 300 euros from his vehicle).

The Central Port Authorities of Piraeus are conducting the preliminary investigation. The seized substances and scales are to be sent to the General State Laboratory for testing, and the suspect will be brought before the competent judicial authorities.
