Piraeus Port Authority investment expansion discussed with local Chamber
The Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EBEP) met with executives from the Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) - Cosco Shipping to discuss the implications of recent amendments to OLP’s statutes, which expand its investment role.
EBEP President Vasilis Korkidis emphasized the need for these new investment prospects to support the local economy and Piraeus businesses while ensuring healthy market competition. The Chamber expressed support for new productive investments but cautioned against uncontrolled vertical integration that could limit opportunities for Greek enterprises. To facilitate this, EBEP presented a package of 12 specific proposals accompanied by measurable performance indicators.
Angelos Karakostas, Deputy CEO of OLP, stated that the new entity was established to attract investment capital, primarily from abroad. He noted that the current mandatory investment program is ongoing and scheduled for completion in November 2028, focusing on port upgrades and ongoing construction projects.
