Piraeus Port Delays and Heavy Traffic Mark August Tourist Surge

The August holiday departure of tourists from the ports of Attica is proceeding relatively smoothly after Friday’s weather‑related disruptions. However, the Piraeus port is reporting departure delays and unusually heavy traffic on the surrounding roads.

The ferry “Blue Star Naxos”, scheduled to leave at 06:45 for Paros, Naxos, Donoussa, Ios and Astypalaia, remained tied up about 55 minutes past its planned time and was more than 90 % full. Similar delays were noted on other routes. Bottlenecks have formed at the Stadio Eirinis kai Filias overpass, extending the approach to the port to 20‑25 minutes. Travelers are advised to leave home earlier. After the sailing ban was lifted on Friday evening, vessels now depart normally from Rafina and Lavrio, with some Friday sailings shifted to Lavrio.
