Piraquara, Brazil: Newborn baby found abandoned in plastic bag

In the early hours of August 24, a woman in Piraquara, Paraná, Brazil, discovered a newborn baby girl abandoned in a plastic bag. Kátia Andreia Beje reported hearing sounds she initially mistook for one of her 17 cats in distress.

Following the noise to a dark, vegetated area, Beje found a plastic bag wrapped in a black cloth. Upon investigation, she realized the sound was coming from a living being. Neighbors assisted in uncovering the infant, who was still attached to her placenta and umbilical cord.

The baby was wrapped in blankets to maintain warmth and was subsequently transported by the Samu emergency services for medical care.
