M/V LUTUF hijacked by pirates off Somalia coast carrying Turkish weapons

Pirates hijacked the Cameroon-flagged cargo ship M/V LUTUF off the coast of Puntland, Somalia, on Monday. The vessel, owned by Polar Movement Shipping, was transporting Turkish weapons, communication equipment, and satellite technology intended for a Turkish military training center in Mogadishu.

The 10-member crew includes six Indian nationals, one Turkish citizen, one Georgian national, and two Serbian security guards. Somali officials report that approximately eight pirates seized the ship and moved it toward the Nugaal coast near Garmaal.

Following the hijacking, Turkish-owned vessels, helicopters, and drones monitored the area. On Tuesday, a small boat approached the ship to deliver khat. After the boat returned to shore, an aerial strike occurred, resulting in four deaths and two injuries. It remains unconfirmed who conducted the strike or if the casualties were linked to the pirates. The current status of the crew, ship, and cargo is unknown.
