PiS proposes new economic reforms amid criticism from Mateusz Morawiecki

The Law and Justice (PiS) party has introduced new economic proposals aimed at entrepreneurs, presented by economist Professor Mariusz Andrzejewski. The platform includes a return to health insurance contribution rules used prior to 2022, where entrepreneurs would pay a flat-rate contribution based on 60 percent of the projected average monthly wage. Other proposals include the reintroduction of the tax card and the ability for taxpayers to choose their taxation form further in advance.

Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has publicly criticized these measures, describing them as reminiscent of Leszek Balcerowicz’s policies. Morawiecki argued that the changes would significantly reduce tax burdens for wealthy individuals while shifting the financial weight onto lower-income workers, stating that the reduction in contributions for the rich would be “financed by the proverbial cashier from Biedronka.”

Andrzejewski, who has previously sought political office in Krakow and the European Parliament, is being positioned by Jarosław Kaczyński as a new economic face for the party. He presented these “revolutionary” ideas, such as one-time investment amortization, at a recent PiS economic conference alongside MEP Daniel Obajtek.
