Health authorities launch mosquito control following viral outbreaks

Health authorities in Italy and Romania are implementing mosquito control measures following reports of various viral infections. In Italy, several cases of Dengue have been identified, including two in Florence and one in a man returning from Central Africa. These cases have prompted urgent disinfestation efforts in affected areas to reduce the density of Aedes mosquitoes and prevent local transmission.

Additionally, Chikungunya has been confirmed in Pisa, leading to emergency adulticide and larvicide treatments in public and private spaces. In the Viterbo region, the West Nile virus continues to circulate, with 35 confirmed cases in Lazio and 226 cases reported nationally, according to the Istituto Superiore di Sanità.

In Romania, the Ilfov County Council is conducting terrestrial treatments to combat mosquitoes in public spaces and green areas. Local authorities have advised citizens to keep windows closed and avoid exposed food during treatment periods.
