Pitești apartment fire prompts emergency response and evacuations

A fire broke out on the eighth floor of a residential block on Sfânta Vineri Street in Pitești, Romania. The local fire department was alerted via emergency number 112 and responded with two water‑foam fire trucks, an aerial rescue vehicle, and two SMURD medical teams. Smoke was observed in the stairwell and residents were evacuated while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze and ventilate the building. A resident suffered a panic‑induced medical episode and received care but refused transport to the hospital. Investigators have not yet determined the exact cause, but early indications point to a forgotten lit candle.

No fatalities were reported, and the fire was brought under control after a rapid response effort.
