Pity Álvarez declared fit to face homicide trial

Forensic medical experts have determined that musician Cristian “Pity” Álvarez is mentally fit to proceed with his homicide trial. The 28-page report, submitted to the Criminal and Correctional Oral Court No. 29, concluded that his psychic functions are compensated, allowing him to understand the scope of the legal process and exercise his rights.

During the evaluation, specialists described Álvarez as “vigil, calm,” and generally oriented, despite noting that his participation was “limited and fluctuating” at times. The experts stated there were no objective indicators of psychic alterations, such as delusions or hallucinations, that would constitute a procedural impediment.

The defense has expressed “total disagreement” with these findings. Defense experts argued that Álvarez exhibits deficient neurocognitive functions and noted that he appeared “vigil but not lucid” during the examination. They maintain that his involuntary hospitalization should continue, citing risks to himself and others.

Álvarez is facing charges for the aggravated homicide of Cristian Maximiliano “Gringo” Díaz, which occurred in July 2018 in the Villa Lugano neighborhood. The trial had previously faced suspensions due to the musician's mental health complications and subsequent hospitalizations.
