Pity Álvarez transferred to psychiatric clinic for trial evaluation
Musician Cristian “Pity” Álvarez has been transferred from Hospital Tornú to the Solar Colonial psychiatric clinic in Castelar for mandatory inpatient treatment. The move follows a nervous breakdown during a video call attempt, which led the court to suspend his homicide trial.
An interdisciplinary team from the Forensic Medical Corps, including a psychiatrist and a psychologist, is scheduled to interview Álvarez on Monday, October 5. This evaluation aims to determine if the 54-year-old is mentally fit to stand trial for the 2018 aggravated homicide of Cristian Maximiliano Díaz. The charges involve the use of a firearm, which carries a potential prison sentence of eight to 25 years.
Judge Gustavo Goerner of the Tribunal Oral en lo Criminal y Correccional N° 29 has granted the medical experts five business days to produce their report. Once the findings are submitted, the court is expected to announce a decision regarding the continuation or suspension of the trial by October 13.
