Pity Álvarez trial continues as judges reject defense pleas

In Buenos Aires, the trial of musician Cristian Pity Álvarez for the 2018 killing of Cristian Maximiliano Díaz continues amid legal disputes. His new defense team, led by Javier Baños and Sebastián Queijeiro, has requested the trial be suspended or moved to a jury system, arguing that Álvarez lacks the mental and cognitive capacity to participate effectively. The defense cited previous medical reports suggesting severe psycho-organic deterioration. However, the Tribunal Oral en lo Criminal y Correccional N°29 rejected these requests, including the demand for new neuropsychological evaluations, ruling that the defendant is fit to continue. During recent hearings, Álvarez was observed falling asleep, adding to the tension.
