Piura Regional Government Delays Humanitarian Aid Distribution Amid Flood Emergency

Peru's Comptroller General (CGR) reported that the Piura regional government has delivered only about 4 % of the S/ 794,760 worth of humanitarian supplies purchased to assist flood‑affected residents. The audit, covering the period 2 March‑10 June 2026, found that only metal buggy carts, blankets and sacks amounting to S/ 32 650 have been handed over to six municipalities, far short of the planned 15‑day delivery schedule.

Inspectors also identified serious deficiencies in the emergency operations centre’s storage facility, including lack of shelving, improper stacking of sacks and blankets on the floor, broken packaging, misplaced fire extinguishers and missing safety signage. The report urges the regional authority to take corrective actions to protect personnel, preserve the supplies and ensure timely assistance to the population still suffering from intense rains across multiple districts.
