Pix payment system hits R$ 35 trillion in transaction volume FAST-MOVING

The Banco Central do Brasil has released its second Pix Management Report, highlighting the system's significant growth and evolving role in the national economy. In 2025, Pix transactions rose 25.7% compared to the previous year, totaling nearly 80 billion operations with a financial volume exceeding R$ 35 trillion. The system is now used by approximately 148 million people, representing about 70% of the population.

Market dynamics are shifting as fintechs now account for 50% of the total number of transactions, while traditional multiple banks hold 35%. However, banks still dominate the total value of transactions, controlling 61.3% of the volume. In the hospitality sector, Pix accounted for 20.5% of in-person sales in bars and restaurants, with higher adoption rates in the North and Northeast regions.

Looking forward, the Central Bank is exploring international expansion by assessing links with foreign instant payment systems to facilitate cheaper and faster cross-border transactions. The bank is also developing new features, including biometric authentication for e-commerce, offline payments via NFC, and automated tax collection. Additionally, the regulator is addressing security concerns by studying a centralized fraud probability score and measures to prevent the misuse of transaction description fields for offensive messaging.
