Pix surpasses 1 billion registered keys in Brazil

The number of registered Pix keys in Brazil has surpassed the 1 billion mark, according to data from the Central Bank (BC). As of September 30, the system recorded 1.008 billion registrations, up from 998 million in August.

This milestone represents a growth of approximately 80 million keys since the end of 2025. While the number of keys is high, it does not equal the total number of users; the system serves approximately 170 million clients, including individuals and companies, with an average of six keys per customer.

Of the total registrations, 956.7 million are linked to individuals and 51.2 million to businesses. Random keys are the most common type, accounting for 52.3% of all registrations, followed by mobile numbers (16.5%), CPF (15.4%), and email addresses (14.3%).

In September alone, the Instant Payment System (SPI) processed over 7 billion transactions, totaling approximately R$ 3.2 trillion, averaging more than 230 million operations per day.
