Pixar celebrates 20th anniversary of ‘Cars’ with re-releases and new series

Pixar is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the animated film ‘Cars’ through various theatrical re-releases and special content. The film, which originally debuted in 2006, is scheduled to return to cinemas in several regions, including Australia starting September 4 and Brazil in October.

To mark the milestone, Pixar has launched a new YouTube retrospective series titled ‘Cars: Route 66 Road Trip’. Hosted by Jo Franco, the series explores the real-world locations and people that inspired the film’s characters and setting, such as the inspiration for Mater and Sally Carrera along the historic Route 66.

Additional celebrations include ‘Lightning McQueen Day’ on September 5, a date chosen to reference the character’s racing number, 95. Related activations include special content on Disney Junior and Disney+, as well as themed collaborations such as a Mercedes Safety Car inspired by the franchise appearing at the Italian Grand Prix.
