Piyush Goyal assures Japanese investors of regulatory stability in India
Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has assured Japanese investors of regulatory stability and the protection of intellectual property in India. During a visit to Japan with a delegation of over 200 Indian business leaders, Goyal sought to encourage investment in sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing.
In a notable remark, Goyal alluded to the experience of Alibaba founder Jack Ma without explicitly naming China. He stated that in India, entrepreneurship is encouraged and investors do not need to fear that they will suddenly disappear after becoming successful, only to reappear later as professors at a Japanese university. This comment was widely interpreted as a reference to Ma, who faced significant regulatory scrutiny in China following criticisms of its financial regulators, leading to a period of public absence before he resurfaced as a visiting professor in Tokyo.
