Piyush Goyal leads 200-member business delegation to Japan

Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is leading a 200-member business delegation to Japan for a four-day visit from August 24 to 27. This marks India’s largest-ever business delegation to the country. Traveling through Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka, the delegation represents diverse sectors including semiconductors, clean energy, automotive, steel, healthcare, and startups.

In Tokyo, Goyal is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Akazawa Ryosei and participate in a roundtable with Keidanren, which represents over 1,500 Japanese companies. He is also meeting with major industrial conglomerates and financial institutions such as Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) and Mizuho to discuss strengthening long-term capital flows and investment in India’s growing economy.

Specific discussions have focused on expanding cooperation in mobility, energy, infrastructure, and pharmaceuticals. Goyal met with leaders from Mitsubishi Corporation and Meiji Seika Pharma Co. Ltd. to explore manufacturing and R&D opportunities in India. Additionally, Goyal highlighted India’s strategy to expand its free trade agreements (FTAs) to eventually cover 75 percent of global trade, positioning the nation as a trusted partner in global value chains.
