Japanese food chains launch seasonal Tsukimi menus

Major food and restaurant chains in Japan have launched seasonal “Tsukimi” (moon-viewing) menus to coincide with the autumn festival. These limited-time offerings typically feature egg-based ingredients to resemble the full moon.

McDonald's Japan is celebrating the 35th anniversary of its Tsukimi series starting September 2, introducing new items such as the “Aburi Gyu Sukiyaki-style Tsukimi” and seasonal desserts like moon-viewing pie. KFC Japan has also released its “Torori Tsukimi” series, featuring increased egg yolk sauce in its burgers and a triple-layered version of its Japanese-style chicken cutlet burger.

Other participating chains include Domino's Pizza, which is offering unique items like “Moon Viewing Cheese Sauce” and large quantities of egg tarts inspired by traditional “Tsukimi dango” pyramids. Zesseria is introducing a variety of moon-themed burgers, including a “Zesshin Tsukimi Burger,” while Pizza Hut is launching sukiyaki and teriyaki mayo themed pizzas. Pronto is also participating with a limited-time breakfast menu featuring demi-glace sauce and cheese.
