Seasonal food and confectionery launches in Japan

Overview

Japanese food and confectionery brands are introducing various seasonal and limited-edition products. In celebration of the Otsukimi moon-viewing tradition, retailers such as Pizza-La have released items like the ‘Sakutto Tsukimi Pie’ and mochi-based pizzas. Pizza Hut is also joining the trend with a ‘Sukiyaki Tsukimi Pizza’ featuring beef sukiyaki and shungiku, alongside a Teriyaki Mayo Tsukimi Pizza, available through November 1, 2026. Domino's Pizza is launching a ‘Guilty Tsukimi’ series, offering large sets of egg tarts and three types of cheese sauces inspired by moon phases. Other participating chains include Zetria, with its beef and egg ‘Tsukimi Series’, and Pronto Corporation, which is partnering with Kagome to offer an ‘Otsukimi Demi Cheese’ breakfast sandwich.

McDonald's Japan is marking the 35th anniversary of its Tsukimi series starting September 2, introducing items such as the ‘Aburi Gyu Sukiyaki-style Tsukimi’ and seasonal moon-viewing pies. KFC Japan has released its ‘Torori Tsukimi’ series, which features increased egg yolk sauce in burgers and a triple-layered Japanese-style chicken cutlet burger. Zesseria is also participating with moon-themed offerings, including a ‘Zesshin Tsukimi Burger’.

Beard Papa is re-releasing its ‘Tsukimi Shu’ dessert, while Osaka Ohsho is offering ‘Ironclad Chicken Miso Katsu Fried Rice’ until September 25, 2026. Confectionery brands are also launching autumn-themed collections. Pierre Marcolini is debuting a ‘Merci de tout Cœur’ collection on September 1, 2026, utilizing regional ingredients like Fukushima white miso and Tokushima yuzu. Kuriko Co., Ltd. is introducing limited-edition ‘Chiikawa Yaki’ flavors—Momonga, Kurimanju, and Rakko—starting August 31, 2026.

Additional autumn dessert launches include Big Boy Japan’s ‘Mitsu-imo Mont Blanc Fudge Sundae’ and Monteur’s ‘Luxurious Mont Blanc Dorayaki’ using ‘Kuma Chestnut’. Monteur will also offer ‘Moon Viewing’ themed dorayaki and will donate a portion of September sales to earthquake relief in Kumamoto.
