PKK marks one-year weapons‑burn anniversary, urges Turkish legal reforms

The PKK commemorated the first anniversary of its 10 July 2025 weapons‑burn ceremony, reiterating that the act was meant to signal a shift toward democratic political struggle. In a written statement the group criticised the Turkish government for failing to create a societal basis for a political solution and for not advancing any legal or political steps.

PKK activists called on the Turkish parliament to discuss a “framework law” and to clarify the legal status of Abdullah Öcalan. They urged the adoption of disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration legislation, the dismantling of village guard structures, reforms to the criminal code and the release of ill‑health prisoners. The statements reference decisions taken at the PKK’s 12th Congress, including a cease‑fire announced on 1 March 2025 and the resolution to end armed struggle.

Both releases stress the need for a comprehensive, inclusive parliamentary roadmap and independent civil monitoring of the disarmament process.
