PKP Intercity hires conductors and pursues Hitachi‑Rail ETR 1000 high‑speed trains
PKP Intercity announced a recruitment drive for conductors on its long‑distance services. Applicants must have at least secondary education, basic English, and be willing to work shifts, including weekends. The position offers a contract of employment, discounts on rail travel, medical and sport packages, training subsidies and the possibility to join company sports teams. Applications for the Kutno‑based posting are open until 18 July 2026.
The railway operator also launched a tender for next‑generation high‑speed trains capable of speeds above 300 km/h. A consortium of PESA Bydgoszcz and Hitachi Rail is proposing the ETR 1000, a proven KDP unit that runs at up to 360 km/h in commercial service, delivers 10 MW of power and seats 457 passengers across several classes. Production of the first 20 units would initially take place at Hitachi’s Italian plant, with later units potentially assembled in Poland. The tender list of eight manufacturers, including Newag and PESA, is to be published on 25 June.
