PKP Intercity orders 32 additional Griffin 200 locomotives from Newag

PKP Intercity has exercised a contract option to purchase an additional 32 Griffin 200 multi-system electric locomotives from the Polish manufacturer Newag. This expansion brings the total planned order for this series to 110 units.

The value of the 32 additional locomotives is estimated at approximately 775.3 million PLN (181.6 million EUR) net, though this figure may be subject to future price indexation. Following notification, Newag has 14 working days to provide a detailed delivery schedule.

The Griffin 200 is a modern locomotive capable of speeds up to 200 km/h. Its multi-system capability allows it to operate across three different power supply systems: 3 kV DC (Poland), 15 kV AC (Germany, Austria, Sweden, and Norway), and 25 kV AC (France, UK, Spain, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary).

Deliveries for the initial contract of 63 locomotives are currently on schedule, with 12 units already received. The full main contract is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2028.
