PKP Intercity orders 32 additional Griffin locomotives from Newag

PKP Intercity has exercised an option to purchase 32 additional Griffin EU200 multi-system electric locomotives from Newag. The value of this additional order, including maintenance services, is estimated at approximately 945.6 million PLN net. This expansion brings the total value of the contract between the national carrier and Newag to approximately 2.807 billion PLN net.

The new locomotives are scheduled for delivery between 2028 and 2029. These units are technically identical to the 63 locomotives included in the original contract. Once all orders are fulfilled, PKP Intercity will possess 110 Griffin EU200 units.

Designed for international travel, the Griffin EU200 can reach speeds of 200 km/h and is compatible with three power systems: the Polish 3 kV DC and the 15 kV and 25 kV AC systems used across various European countries. Following successful homologation, these locomotives will be capable of serving international routes to cities such as Berlin, Prague, Vienna, and Budapest.
