Rio Verde, Brazil plane crash kills grandfather and grandson
A small aircraft crashed on the night of Saturday, 13 June, in the rural area of Rio Verde, Goiás, Brazil. The wreckage was found in a cornfield on the GO‑174 near the Fazenda Escalada do Rio Preto, about 10 m from a side road. The victims were identified as 68‑year‑old Dirceu Antônio Zanchi and his 17‑year‑old grandson Gabriel Zanchi Fernandes.
According to family members, the plane – a Neiva EMB‑711ST (also reported as a Corisco Turbo PR‑RZH) – was attempting to land when its wings may have struck tall corn, causing a loss of control and a steep vertical drop. Firefighters, SAMU and police were dispatched around 18:25, recovered the bodies about 20 m from the main fuselage, and isolated the site to preserve evidence.
The incident is being investigated by the Centre for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (CENIPA), the Police Technical‑Scientific unit and other authorities. No definitive cause has been released. The local community and political representatives expressed condolences, and funeral services are scheduled in Rio Verde.
