Plank workout benefits and 5‑day challenge highlighted in France

Health experts explain that the plank is an effective isometric exercise that engages all core muscles—from the transverse abdominis and obliques to the deep back muscles and pelvic floor. When performed correctly, it improves pelvic control, lumbar stability and overall posture, helping reduce back pain and making everyday activities such as lifting or standing for long periods easier. The Cleveland Clinic notes that regular plank training builds muscular endurance, while the National Academy of Sports Medicine warns that the exercise does not melt abdominal fat on its own; diet and overall activity are still required for visible changes.

A five‑day plank challenge promoted by French fitness coaches suggests three daily sets with a modest increase of five seconds each day, totaling between one and four minutes of hold time. Coaches such as Alexandra Rea and James Brady emphasize proper form—forearms under shoulders, straight line from head to heels, engaged abdomen and glutes—over maximal duration. The gradual progression is designed to strengthen the abdominal wall, back, shoulders and hips while enhancing balance and stability, especially important for maintaining independence with age.
