Plastic Surgery Center faces scrutiny after patient death

Following the death of social media influencer Olivia Oras during a liposuction procedure at the Plastic Surgery Center in Helsinki, investigations and allegations regarding the clinic's practices have intensified. Oras reportedly lost consciousness during anesthesia and later died in a hospital. Police are investigating the incident as a gross negligence case.

A former surgeon who worked at the clinic has criticized the leadership of chief physician Karl Johan Svedjeholm, describing his conduct as “ruthless” and endangering patient safety. The surgeon alleged that the clinic lacked adequate emergency protocols and safety training during their tenure.

Additionally, the clinic has faced significant consumer scrutiny. Six complaints have been filed with the Consumer Ombudsman this year alone, involving issues such as failed liposuction procedures, poor customer service, misleading promises, and questionable billing and cancellation practices. According to the Competition and Consumer Authority, more than a quarter of all inquiries regarding plastic surgery procedures this year have been directed toward the Plastic Surgery Center.
