Plateau State attack: U.S. condemns deadly killings in Nigeria

The United States has condemned a deadly overnight attack in the Bin Mper community of Plateau State, Nigeria, where armed assailants killed residents using guns and machetes. The attack, which took place between August 17 and 18 in the Mangu Local Government Area, targeted people while they slept.

Reports on the death toll vary slightly, with the Plateau State government confirming 24 deaths, while other reports indicate between 24 and 26 victims, many of whom were women and children. A mass burial was conducted for the deceased.

Massad Boulos, U.S. Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, expressed deep disturbance over the violence and urged the Nigerian government to protect Christian communities and hold perpetrators accountable.
