Plateau State attacks kill multiple people, prompting dusk-to-dawn curfew
A series of violent attacks across Plateau State, Nigeria, has resulted in multiple fatalities, with reports indicating at least nine people were killed between Saturday night and Sunday morning. The violence occurred in several communities within the Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and Mangu Local Government Areas.
Specific incidents included an attack on a vehicle carrying laborers toward Gana-Ropp in Barkin Ladi, which left five people dead. In another incident, a Baptist pastor and another individual were killed while traveling to church at Dorowa Babuje. Other fatalities were reported in Baten Wereng and Ratyidi. Some reports suggest the total death toll across the region may exceed 20 people due to various separate assaults.
In response to the escalating insecurity, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has imposed an immediate dusk-to-dawn curfew in Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, and Mangu Local Government Areas. The curfew restricts movement between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. and includes a ban on the use of motorcycles in the affected regions. Military and security personnel have been deployed to the communities to stabilize the area and restore order.
