Plateau State: At least 25 killed in Bin-Per community attack
At least 25 people were killed during a nighttime attack on the Bin-Per community in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria. Armed assailants reportedly moved from house to house, using machetes to attack residents, including women and children, while they slept. The violence also resulted in the destruction of homes and farmlands.
In response to the massacre, the Plateau State Police Command has increased security presence in the area. Commissioner of Police Ayodeji Faniyan stated that authorities are working to identify and prosecute those responsible, noting that a suspect believed to be the mastermind has already been arrested.
Local community groups, including the Mwaghavul Youth Movement, have condemned the attack and criticized the government for failing to provide adequate protection to vulnerable populations. Residents held a peaceful protest during mass burials for the victims to demand urgent government intervention. The incident is part of a broader pattern of recurring violence in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region, often linked to tensions over land and resources.
