Plateau State miners killed in separate attacks

Two separate fatal attacks targeting miners have been reported in Plateau State, Nigeria.

In the Riyom Local Government Area, a miner identified as Dachung Dacholom was killed at an illegal mining site in the Rim community. Suspected Fulani militia members reportedly opened fire on workers before fleeing into high ground. Troops from Operation ENDURING PEACE and the Department of State Services (DSS) responded to the scene, where they recovered Dacholom’s body. Security forces have since intensified patrols in the area to prevent further violence.

In a separate incident in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, 20-year-old Abdulmuminu Muhammad was found dead along the Gana Ropp-Barki Ladi road. Relatives discovered his body after he failed to return from mining activities on a Saturday evening. Family members described the killing as barbaric, noting that the victim had been attacked with machetes. Muhammad was buried following funeral prayers in Barkin Ladi.
