Plateau State, Nigeria: At least 24 killed in attacks on Christian communities

At least 24 Christians were killed during an overnight attack on the Bin Mper community in the Mangu County of Plateau State, Nigeria, on August 18, 2026. Local leaders reported that the violence included the burning of homes and destruction of crops. The Plateau State Government condemned the assault and directed security agencies to increase surveillance and patrols in vulnerable areas.

Investigations suggest the violence may have been part of a series of coordinated attacks targeting multiple predominantly Christian villages. Reports indicate simultaneous or closely timed strikes occurred in Rim, Chakfem, and Bin Mper. While some accounts cited a total of 27 deaths across these locations, others focused on the 24 victims in Bin Mper, which included women and children. Witnesses reported that attackers spoke Fulani, and local civilian guards, often poorly equipped, attempted to defend residents during the assaults.
