Plateau State security forces arrest arms suspects and recover illegal weapons

Security forces in Plateau State have conducted operations resulting in the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of various illegal firearms. The Plateau State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Ayodeji Faniyan, announced the recovery of a significant cache of locally fabricated weapons aimed at curbing persistent insecurity, including communal violence, banditry, and kidnapping in the region.

In a coordinated effort, troops from Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) carried out covert operations in the Mangu and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas between October 7 and 11. These operations led to the arrest of an alleged arms fabricator, Ayuba Sunday Abot, along with three suspected gunrunners: Tangkat Danjuma, Kopdi Appollos, and Nyam Nzang.

Recovered items include a fabricated revolver rifle, a fabricated pistol, an AK-47 rifle barrel, an AK-47 magazine, and 42 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects were purchasing ammunition at ₦3,000 per round from an individual described as a security agent. The suspects and seized materials have been transferred to OPEP headquarters for further investigation.
