Security operations in Plateau State

Overview

Security forces in Plateau State have intensified efforts to combat communal violence, banditry, and kidnapping through targeted operations. Between October 7 and 11, troops from Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) conducted covert missions in the Mangu and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas. These operations resulted in the arrest of an alleged arms fabricator and three suspected gunrunners, alongside the recovery of locally fabricated firearms and ammunition.

Following these arrests, the Plateau State Police Command launched ‘Operation Baa Wurin Ta’adanci’ (No Place for Terrorism). This initiative aims to target criminal elements hiding in the state’s hinterlands and rocky terrain, with plans to collaborate with neighboring state commands to track suspects.

In addition to counter-terrorism efforts, police officials have engaged political stakeholders to maintain order during upcoming elections. The Inspector-General of Police has approved the deployment of additional personnel and assets to prevent incitement, violence, and vote-buying during the electoral process.
