Xbox Helix and PlayStation 6 reach chip design finalization stage
Leaked technical specifications and development updates suggest that the next generation of gaming consoles, specifically Sony’s PlayStation 6 and Microsoft’s Xbox Helix, have reached the ‘tape-out’ stage. This indicates that the chip designs are finalized and ready for production, potentially paving the way for a late 2027 launch.
According to industry leaker Kepler_L2, the Xbox Helix is expected to hold a significant performance advantage in raw computing power, with reported figures of 56 teraflops compared to 40 teraflops for the PlayStation 6. While the Xbox may offer roughly 40% more graphical processing power, experts note that teraflops are not the sole indicator of real-world performance.
The PlayStation 6 is rumored to offer substantial improvements over the PS5, including up to 12 times faster ray tracing and AI processing capabilities that are 50 to 70 times faster than the current generation.
Pricing remains a major point of speculation. Estimates suggest the Xbox Helix could be more expensive due to its higher power requirements and memory capacity, with some reports projecting retail prices for next-gen hardware to reach approximately $1,000, though some estimates for the PlayStation 6 suggest a lower entry point around $700 to $900.
