PlayStation Store implements Mexican peso pricing
The PlayStation Store has completed maintenance to allow transactions in Mexico to be processed directly in Mexican pesos. This transition ends a long-standing system where users had to purchase games in US dollars, making them dependent on their bank's exchange rates.
While the change allows for base prices to be shown in local currency, consumers have noted that the 16% Value Added Tax (IVA) is added during the final checkout process rather than being included in the initial displayed price. For example, the standard edition of Grand Theft Auto VI is listed at a base price that increases to 1,599 pesos once taxes are applied.
This update follows a 2025 notification from Mexico’s Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco). The agency had previously signaled to Sony that prices directed at Mexican consumers should be displayed in national currency and include the final total amount to be paid, including all applicable taxes and charges.
