PlayStation Store to Remove StudioCanal Movies and Series from Users' Libraries in 2026

Sony’s PlayStation Store announced that, beginning on 1 September 2026, users in Spain and the United Kingdom will lose access to all previously purchased StudioCanal titles. The removal applies to movies and TV series such as ‘Paddington’, ‘Paddington 2’, ‘Moonlight’, ‘Carol’, ‘Source Code’, ‘Train to Busan’, ‘The Imitation Game’ and ‘Terminator 2’. Sony said the change is driven by the expiration of licensing agreements for the content.

The notice follows PlayStation’s earlier decision, effective 31 August 2021, to cease offering rentals and new purchases of movies and TV shows. While existing purchases remained accessible under prior terms, the new policy clarifies that digital purchases are licences tied to content availability, not permanent ownership.

The move mirrors similar licence‑restriction clauses used by other digital platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Steam, highlighting ongoing consumer concerns about the permanence of digital media purchases.
