Overview

Sony will remove 551 StudioCanal-licensed movies and series from PlayStation Store accounts in several EU markets on 1 September 2026, offering no refunds. Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, developed by Arc System Works in collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment, launched on 6 August 2026 for PlayStation 5 and PC. The 2D 4v4 tag-team game features 20 iconic Marvel heroes and villains and utilizes a unique mechanic where matches begin as 2v2 fights and expand as players progress through level boundaries. The title features an anime-inspired aesthetic, a visual direction adopted following Marvel’s encouragement to cater to Japanese market preferences.

In its debut week, the title achieved estimated sales of approximately 485,000 copies, generating an estimated $33 million in gross revenue. While the PlayStation 5 version has been well-received for its optimization and high visual clarity, the PC release has faced significant backlash on Steam due to technical instability, including frame rate drops, high CPU usage, and netcode errors. The mandatory requirement to link a PlayStation Network (PSN) account has also prevented access in 132 countries.

Following the launch, datamining of the PC version suggested a live-service model featuring a Battle Pass and potential DLC, such as Rocket Raccoon and 'Legacy' costumes. However, the PC player base has since plummeted to approximately one-tenth of its original size. Producer Takeshi Yamanaka issued an apology regarding the technical shortcomings, admitting it will be ‘extremely challenging’ to win back the players lost during the launch period.
