Plaza Rural to host 328th livestock auction in Montevideo

Plaza Rural is hosting its 328th auction on September 24 and 25 at the Hotel Cottage in Montevideo. The event features a significant volume of livestock, including 15,427 cattle and 699 sheep. Financing for the auction is provided by the Banco de la República.

Ignacio Victorica, president of Plaza Rural, noted that the auction includes diverse categories such as calves, steers, cows, and pregnant heifers. He highlighted favorable productive conditions due to recent rainfall and sunny weather, which are expected to improve pasture development and accelerate weight gain as spring begins.

Agronomist Gonzalo Indarte Gianoni of Indarte y Cía. observed that while the slaughter industry typically slows down in September due to internal plant maintenance and the withdrawal of kosher equipment, the market remains stable. He noted that despite low weekly slaughter numbers, the replacement market remains dynamic as producers look toward positive international meat export prices and rising global trends.
