PLD commission addresses voter registry disputes for October consultation
The Organizing Commission for the Presidential Aspirant Consultation (CONAP-2026) of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) has addressed disputes regarding the voter registry for its upcoming consultation on October 18. The commission clarified that the process is a non-binding sympathy measurement and does not replace the formal internal election process scheduled for 2027.
The controversy arose following allegations by presidential aspirant Francisco Javier García, who claimed that approximately 523,000 members were being excluded from the registry. CONAP officials, including Alejandrina Germán, denied these claims, stating that no one has been definitively excluded. They explained that the individuals in question are those with multiple affiliations in the Central Electoral Board (JCE) records or those who have not been validated by the party since 2020.
According to the commission, the JCE provided a registry of over 6 million eligible citizens. While 82.7% have no other political affiliations, roughly 17.3% appear in multiple party registries. The commission has opened an extraordinary period for those with multiple affiliations to clarify their status and ensure their right to participate.
