Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant marks 44 years of operation

The Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant (TE Pljevlja) has marked 44 years of operation, having produced a total of 46 TWh of electricity since its inception. According to EPCG, the plant plays a critical role in the stability of Montenegro's energy system, particularly during periods of drought when hydroelectric production decreases.

In the first eight months of 2026, the plant produced 1,099 GWh of electricity, exceeding its comparative plan by 80%. Its output accounted for approximately 44% of EPCG's total production during that period, rising to about 47% since the start of the year. Recent daily production values have reached approximately 1.1 million euros.

The plant has also completed an ecological reconstruction aimed at improving environmental performance and ensuring long-term operation. Independent measurements from the RACI laboratory and the Center for Ecotoxicological Testing (CETI) confirmed significant reductions in emissions. Nitrogen oxide emissions decreased by approximately 74%, while sulfur dioxide emissions were reduced by 98.4%.
