Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant operations

Overview

The Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant in Montenegro has reached a milestone of 44 years of operation, having produced a total of 46 TWh of electricity. The facility remains a critical component for Montenegro’s energy stability, particularly during droughts when hydroelectric output is low. In the first eight months of 2026, the plant exceeded its production plan by 80%, accounting for approximately 44% of EPCG’s total production.

Following an ecological reconstruction that significantly reduced nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide emissions, the plant is scheduled to suspend electricity production in late October. Executive Director Ivan Starovlah stated that the shutdown is for routine winter maintenance, involving inspections and repairs of production systems, ecological facilities, and wastewater treatment plants to ensure reliability during the winter months.
