PLN implements rolling blackouts in Makassar due to power system maintenance

PT PLN (Persero) Unit Induk Distribusi Sulawesi Selatan, Sulawesi Tenggara, dan Sulawesi Barat (UID Sulselrabar) is conducting infrastructure maintenance on the South Sulawesi (Sulbagsel) electrical system to improve long-term reliability. This maintenance has reduced the available power supply, leading to the implementation of rolling load management in Makassar and surrounding areas.

Rotation-based power outages are lasting between one and four hours per session, depending on field conditions. General Manager Edyansyah stated that over 230 technicians have been deployed to accelerate the maintenance process. To prevent a total blackout, PLN is managing the load to maintain overall system stability.

In efforts to restore the system, the 125 MW Jeneponto Coal-Fired Power Plant (PLTU) has returned to operation and is supplying electricity. However, some power plants still require optimization, meaning the supply capacity has not yet fully returned to normal levels. PLN is continuing to monitor the situation and optimize all available power sources.
