Wizz Air cuts Plovdiv‑Bratislava route, leaving Bulgarian airport with only five international destinations

Wizz Air announced that its low‑cost service between Plovdiv Airport in Bulgaria and Bratislava in Slovakia will end, with the final scheduled flight on 24 October 2026. The route, launched on 15 November 2025 and originally slated to run until October 2027, was heavily used by travelers heading to Austria via Bratislava. Its termination will reduce Plovdiv’s regular international connections from four to three, leaving the airport serving only five foreign cities overall.

The cancellation is part of a broader reshuffle of Wizz Air’s network from Bratislava, which also sees the end of flights to Dortmund and Bucharest and the conversion of several other routes to seasonal service. Local passengers and officials have called for urgent measures to attract new airlines and expand the airport’s destination list.
