Plovdiv Central Station Tunnel to be Finished by Year-End

The 580‑metre underground tunnel beneath Plovdiv’s central railway station is in its final construction phase and is on schedule to be completed by the end of the year. The project, part of the "Development of the Plovdiv Railway Node" investment worth more than €124.6 million, also includes modernization of tracks, signaling, telecommunications and the construction of new overpasses.

Contractor Trace Group Hold, acting as technical lead for the National Railway Infrastructure Company, reports that major tunnel works are finished, with remaining tasks focused on completing pedestrian underpasses, installing elevators, building bus stops for city transport and laying the final asphalt. A pumping station to manage groundwater is slated for completion within a month, and road‑way upgrades—including the widening of Kukuš Street and new traffic signals on Dimitar Talev and Kalikra—are being carried out by Dragiev & Co on behalf of Plovdiv Municipality, with a target of October 30. Asphalt laying is planned for September. All activities are proceeding without identified delays, and the tunnel is expected to open to traffic before year‑end.
