Plovdiv launches competition for Milcho Leviev monument

The Association for Culture and Education “Milcho Leviev”, in partnership with the National School of Music and Dance Arts “Dobrin Petkov” and the Plovdiv municipality, announced a competition to design a sculptural composition honoring the internationally‑known jazz pianist and composer Milcho Leviev. The monument will mark the 90th anniversary of Leviev’s birth in 2027 and is to be placed on the triangular square bounded by Tsar Ivan Alexander, Avksentiy Veleski and Gladston streets, opposite the Boris Hristov House of Culture.

Proposals must feature Leviev at the piano, allow visitor interaction and photographic appeal, and convey a sense of music, jazz and movement. The work should be primarily bronze, may include durable stone elements, and must be completed by December 2027. The budget is up to €50,000. Submissions are open to Bulgarian individuals, legal entities and students in fine arts or architecture, with a single entry per participant due by 31 October 2026.
